A man having a mental health episode fired shots at police officers during a standoff in the parking lot of a Montgomery County condo complex early Wednesday, authorities said.

The incident played out in the Meadows complex parking lot near Norwood Street & Meadowview Lane, in Mont Clare in Upper Providence Township, Pennsylvania.

A family member called 911 just before 3 a.m. to alert police that a man was "suffering from a mental health emergency" and had put several firearms in his pickup truck, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele's office said in a news release.

Police officers arrived to find the man in the crashed pickup in the condo building parking lot.

"The man exited his vehicle and fired at police officers, who returned fire," the DA's office said in its release.

The man was shot in the arm and rushed to Paoli Hospital, investigators said. He is expected to survive.

Around 6 a.m., police told NBC10 that a person was taken into custody and the SWAT situation was over.

When NBC10 got close to the scene, a damaged white pickup could be seen with bullet holes in the windshield. Police tape also blocked off part of the parking lot area as authorities investigated.

Investigators marked off at least 57 pieces of evidence, including a gun on the ground.

Montgomery County detectives were among those investigating since officers were involved in the shooting.
