A man died after being hit by a SEPTA bus while trying to cross the street in Center City, Philadelphia. Officials are investigating the causes of the accident.
A dangerous morning on area roads included danger for pedestrians as well with deadly results.
A SEPTA bus struck a 59-year-old man while making left turn from Chestnut Street onto 22nd Street in Center City Philadelphia around 6:20 a.m., according to SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern.
The man was crossing the street at the time when he was pinned by the Route 42 bus.
"The pedestrian was trapped under the bus, was extricated by the Philadelphia Fire Department and was transported to Hahnemann Hospital," said Philadelphia Police Capt. James Kimrey.
The man died a short time later at the hospital.
Motorists experienced some delays in the area.
There were seven people on board the bus at the time of the crash. No one on board was hurt, according to SEPTA.

Redfern said that another bus came along to continue the passengers on their journey.
The incident happened during a morning marred by serious crashes around the area as rain-slicked roads caused problems for motorists.
It's unclear if weather played a role in this Center City crash. Kimrey said that scaffolding at the corner could have played a role in blocking the driver’s view before making the turn.
