Sayreville High School Athletic Director Suspended Amid Hazing Scandal

The Sayreville High School athletic director has been suspended from coaching and teaching in connection with a hazing scandal on the football team. Younger players accusing their teammates of beating them and sexually assaulting them. Several Sayreville players are also facing charges.

Sayreville War Memorial High School’s athletic director, John Kohutanycz, was suspended from coaching and teaching by the board of education Tuesday night.

The decision came weeks after football hazing allegations surfaced in October.

Younger players accused their teammates of hauling them down, beating, and sexually assaulting them.  The scandal rocked the schooland led to a cancellation of the football season.

In light of the scandal, four assistant coaches were intially suspended with pay. But they were reinstated less than a month later and returned to teaching.

Head coach George Najjar remains on suspension for the indefinite future.

Seven players were arrested on charges ranging from hazing to aggravated sexual assault.

One player even lost a scholarship to play for Penn State.
