Rutgers Football Player Charged With Robbery

A Rutgers football player was arrested Sunday after he and another man allegedly robbed a bicyclist in Sarasota County, Florida.

Sarasota County police say 19-year-old Darian Dailey, a cornerback for Rutgers, and 20-year-old Trazelle Johnson, got out of a vehicle around 2 a.m. Sunday and approached a bicyclist while armed with a gun. The men then demanded money, took the cash and fled the scene, police said. The bicyclist was not hurt during the incident.

The bicyclist reported the vehicle’s tag information to police who eventually tracked down Dailey and Johnson, according to the Herald-Tribune. The bicyclist then identified the two as the men who robbed him.

Dailey and Johnson are currently being held on $150,000 bond at the Manatee County Jail on felony robbery charges, according to NJ.com.

Dailey, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback from Bradenton, Florida, redshirted for the Rutgers football team last season.

“We are aware of the situation and are gathering facts,” said Rutgers Football head coach Kyle Flood. “Once those facts are gathered, we will take the appropriate action.”
