Psychiatrist Accused of Fondling Young Patients

A Bucks County psychiatrist is under arrest on charges he fondled three of his young patients. As NBC10’s Keith Jones reports, the doctor specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry and in physical and sexual abuse.

A psychiatrist in southeastern Pennsylvania has been accused of fondling three patients.

The Bucks County district attorney's office said 42-year-old Dr. Basem Shlewiet of the 3600 block of Green Ridge Rd. in Furlong, Pa. was arrested late Thursday afternoon and charged with multiple counts of corruption of minors, indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor.

Doylestown police said they received reports from three separate young women from April to December 2013 alleging Shlewiet touched them inappropriately in his Doylestown office.

He's being held on $200,000 bail at Bucks County Correctional Institute.

His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 7.

The district attorney's office is asking anyone else who believes they have been subject to inappropriate contact with Shlewiet to contact police.
