Charges against a 24-year-old Delaware man have been upgraded to manslaughter after the pregnant woman police say he assaulted in Bear died from her injuries.

A Delaware man now faces manslaughter charges after a pregnant woman he allegedly assaulted died from her injuries.

New Castle County Police said Sunday that charges against Fernando Flores have been upgraded from first and second degree assault to manslaughter.

Flores, 24, was arrested on Oct. 19 following a domestic dispute with Paola Delgado-Polanco at the Waterford Trailer Park in Bear, Delaware.

The pregnant 21-year-old was found unresponsive just before 6 p.m. that Sunday by police and paramedics inside their home along the 800 block of Samantha Circle, police said.

She was rushed to Christiana Hospital for surgery and remained in critical condition until her death on Oct. 29, according to police.

Doctors were able to deliver Delgado-Polanco's baby girl before her death. The girl remains in critical, but stable condition, police said.

Flores is being held in the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $200,000 cash bail.
