Bomb Squad Called to Illegally Parked Car

Investigators were searching a suspicious car parked behind the building.

Police officers as well as the bomb squad were called to the scene of a suspicious car in Somerdale, NJ. Investigators have not yet revealed why they considered the car suspicious.

Police have cleared the scene after spending several hours near the municipal building on the 100 block of Kennedy Boulevard in Somerdale, NJ.

Investigators began searching the vehicle around 7 p.m. on Tuesday after they noticed it was illegally parked. Police officers remained at the scene for several hours and even called in the bomb squad.

Police blocked off several streets surrounding the building. They cleared the scene around 5:30 a.m. Police say there will be charges filed but they have not yet revealed what the charges are or who they're against.

NBC10 spoke to Somerdale Mayor Gary Passanante about the overnight police activity.

"In today's environment we have to be extra careful with everything that happens in town and everywhere," said Passanante. "The police department was on it right away with the illegal parked vehicle. Once they knew there was more to look into they called in the property agencies to take action."
