Police, Firefighters Perform Hazardous Material Drill at Philadelphia SEPTA Station

These scenes look real, but it was all a part of an important drill on Wednesday in Philadelphia that will help first responders prepare for the Pope’s visit. NBC10’s Randy Gyllenhaal watched the disaster drill and has the details.

SEPTA riders were told not be worried about a large presence of emergency responders at the AT&T Station in South Philadelphia.

The city's Emergency Management Office, police and firefighters conducted a drill Wednesday morning. The exercise simulated a decontamination response during a mass casualty incident after a chemical release.

Decontamination stations were set up to aid those playing the role of the injured. The drill ended by noon.

Crews said the drill was planned before the Pope's visit this fall but that it would help them be ready just in case.
