Frank Vogt, the pilot who landed a plane on the N.J. Turnpike, talked about the experience of the emergency landing.
A single-engine plane made a harrowing landing on the New Jersey Turnpike this morning at the start of the morning rush hour.
Pilot, passenger and plane landed safely and no injuries reported on the ground.
Frank Vogt brought the plane down on the highway just before 7 a.m. when he noticed a drop oil pressure. After the plane's engine begin to sputter, "It happened very quickly," said Vogt.
Vogt and reporter Mike Lankford were monitoring traffic conditions for KYW radio before Vogt landed in the northbound lanes near exit 4 in Cherry Hill.
"Once I landed I kind of pulled over the right side a little bit and [drivers] continued to go by in the left lane,” said Vogt.
Traffic on the Turnpike was backed up while the plane was towed off the highway about an hour after it landed.
"I wasn't expecting that when I woke up in the morning," Vogt said.
The FAA examined the plane and determined that Vogt did everything he could to safely land the plane after it malfunctioned, they said.
