Representatives from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport say deals to allow natural gas drilling can be beneficial, but they aren't always quick.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Sunday that officials from Consol Energy Inc. and Pittsburgh International Airport went to Texas in May to seek advice. The Pittsburgh airport signed a drilling deal with Consol in February.
The gas drilling lease at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport has brought in about $300 million since 2006. But drilling there has been on hold for several years because of low natural gas prices.David Magana, a spokesman for the Texas airport, says they never experienced disturbances in air traffic operations because of the drilling. Magana says drilling royalties are a welcome supplement to airport budgets, but not a panacea.
