Officials at Clearview Regional High in Gloucester County say there is one confirmed case of whooping cough at the school, and health officials are also looking into another suspected case at the high school.

A whopping cough scare at a South Jersey high school after a student came down with the highly-contagious respiratory disease.

A Clearview Regional High School student came down with pertussis, aka whooping cough, the school located at 420 Cedar Road in Mullica Hill, New Jersey posted to its website Friday.

The school didn’t reveal details about the student.

Pertussis can lead to severe coughing, sneezing, running nose and fever, and can possibly lead to hospitalization. The school posted a Frequently Asked Questions memo about what you should do if you see signs of the condition.

A DTaP vaccine can help prevent infection and a Tdap booster can increase protection, says Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
