Man Murdered at Same Home Where Baby Was Killed 17 Years Ago

One man is dead and another in jail in Burlington County a love triangle ends in murder. NBC10’s Monique Braxton reports.

A man was murdered outside the same home where a baby girl was killed 17 years ago.

Police say 44-year-old Mark Brooks was found dead on the ground outside his home on the 100 block of South Maple Avenue in Maple Shade, New Jersey around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, police arrested 38-year-old John Borger IV of Maple Shade in connection to the murder. Investigators say Borger went to Brooks' home armed with a knife and found him standing outside. Borger then allegedly stabbed Brooks to death before fleeing the scene.

Borger was charged with murder and is currently being held on $750,000 bail. He's expected to make his first appearance in court on Monday.

Investigators say Borger and Brooks were "acquaintances." A woman, who we are not identifying, claimed on her Facebook page however that Borger is her estranged husband while Brooks was her boyfriend.

“I came home after work and found my boyfriend, the love of my life, my heart, my savior, bleeding and dying on the sidewalk,” she wrote. “He died in front of my eyes. I am destroyed and I am going to need my friends to take shifts keeping me company and sane.”

She also claimed that Borger confessed to the murder.

“Just so you know, my estranged husband was taken in for questioning and I just got a call from the detective that he admitted guilt to the crime,” she wrote.

NBC10 checked with detectives, who aren't confirming whether or not that's true.

Two of Brooks' neighbors told NBC10 that a man murdered an infant baby 17 years ago at the same home where Brooks was murdered.

According to the Philly Inquirer, on November 4, 1996, police found 4-month-old Shannon Duff lying on a kitchen table inside a Maple Shade home in cardiac arrest. She was taken to the hospital where she died the next day.

Prosecutors claimed she had been shaken to death. According to prosecutors, she suffered a spinal cord injury that prevented oxygen from getting to her brain.

Thomas Duff, a former Burlington County dispatcher and fiance of the baby's mother, was later arrested and pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection to her death.

NBC10 did a reverse search of the child's mother and discovered that she lived in the same exact home where Brooks was murdered from 1996 to 2010, confirming the neighbors' claim.
