Pennsylvania Turnpike Tolls to Increase by 6 Percent Next Year

The price hike will take effect next January and the extra money will be used towards rebuilding and widening projects along the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Motorists will see higher prices when paying to travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike next year.

Turnpike tolls will increase by 6 percent after midnight on Jan. 7, 2017, a price jump largely attributed to the cost of rebuilding and widening the road system.

The most common toll for a passenger vehicle will increase from $1.16 to $1.23 for E-ZPass customers and from $1.80 to $1.95 for cash customers. The most common toll for a tractor-trailer will increase from $9.59 to $10.17 for E-ZPass customers and from $13.60 to $14.45 for cash customers.

Turnpike officials say revenues will fund a recently approved 10-year spending plan. The commission expects annual increases of up to 6 percent until 2044.

Toll rates won't increase next year on the Delaware River Bridge cashless tolling point northeast of Philadelphia.
