A pedestrian was struck by a police vehicle in Woodlynne, Camden County around midnight Thursday morning and later died. NBC10’s Miguel Martinez-Valle reports.
A woman died after being struck by a Camden County police vehicle in New Jersey overnight.
The crash took place south of the intersection of Woodlynne and Mt. Ephraim avenues in Woodlynne late Wednesday night and involved a Camden County police officer, county and state officials said.
"An on-duty, uniformed officer of the Camden County Metro Police Department was operating a marked patrol vehicle southbound on Mount Ephraim Avenue at approximately 10:55 p.m., when he struck the pedestrian, a Camden woman who was crossing Mount Ephraim Avenue at Woodlynne Avenue," the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General said in a news release.
The woman who was struck died at the scene after the officer stopped, investigators said.

Investigators have yet to name the woman or the officer.
Police spent hours early Thursday morning investigating the wreck, which happened in a dark area of road, before clearing it ahead of the morning rush. At one point, a police vehicle could be seen being towed from the scene.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and New Jersey State Police are leading the investigation into exactly what happened, Camden County officials said.

The officer was not responding to a call at the time, the AG's office said.
