Pa. Bill brings Uber, Lyft Step Closer to Legal Operations in Philly

The growing popularity of Uber and Lyft is forcing Pennsylvania lawmakers to create statewide regulations on ridesharing. The ridesharing bill now moves to the house for a vote that will create a permanent legal framework for these companies.

Uber and Lyft had mixed reactions to the advancement of legislation in Harrisburg that would make the ridesharing operators' services legal in Philadelphia – the sole holdout in the state of Pennsylvania.

The legislation, closely watched by the taxi and ridesharing industries, will advance to a full House vote following a 23-2 vote by the House Committee on Consumer Affairs on Wednesday.
