On-Demand Delivery Companies See Uptick During Nor'easter

A nor'easter Tuesday forced speed restrictions, SEPTA detours and other travel cancellations throughout the Philadelphia region, perhaps deterring many travelers though some drivers still took to the roads. The city's food-and-grocery delivery services saw upticks in orders from Philadelphians who opted to stay at home rather than travel to their destinations.
What was to be the season's biggest storm ended up bringing more rain and ice to Greater Philadelphia instead of the predicted foot or more of snow. That didn't stop officials from closing schools nor city residents from staying at home instead of braving the storm.
That turned out to be a boon for home-delivery services like goPuff, Caviar and Grubhub.

In Philadelphia, snow fell early Tuesday morning mixing with freezing rain. The airport wound up with 6 inches while 6.8 inches fell at the city's Office of Emergency Management.

Meanwhile, people in Allentown got 12.3 inches of snow. Brrr. As for other towns in Lehigh County, New Tripoli had 14.5 inches, Slatedale 15.2, Macungie 13.5, Emmaus 12.5, Orefield 9 and Alburtis 8.
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania: "Just when he went out to shovel the freezing rain came down hard," said Kristin Dejesus. Bethlehem got 13.9 inches while Tatamy in Northampton County got 15.1 inches.

A morning visit from a cardinal in Bristol, Bucks County. Portions of the area, such as Spinnerstown, received 11 inches of snow while Greenbrook had 5.7 inches and Trevose had 5.5 inches.

"Five inches of snow and freezing rain. It just started snowing pretty hard again at 10:20 a.m.," said Haverford resident Colleen Sullivan. Snow totals in Delaware County ranged from 6 inches in Upper Darby. Garnet Valley totaled 3.4 inches. Wayne had 6.3 inches, Chadds Ford had 5.7 and Drexel Hill had 5.5 inches.

It might not be snowing at the shore, but the area saw plenty of rain. Here is a photo of flooding in the center of Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Martin Luther King Boulevard and Caspian Avenue. Officially, AC airport reported a trace of snow.
