Officer Arrested on Drug Charges

Suspended with intent to dismiss

A Philadelphia police officer is facing federal drug charges.

Officials say 23-year old Jonathan Garcia was arrested Tuesday night.  He’s accused of distributing heroin and carrying a firearm during a drug transaction.

According to court documents, Garcia sold bundles of heroin to a source cooperating with the FBI.  The documents say Garcia was in uniform during two of the alleged drug sales.

Garcia is a 3-year veteran of the force.  He was assigned to the 17th District.

He’s been suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss.

If convicted of all charges, Garcia faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years imprisonment.
