A shooting outside a North Philly rec center left one teen dead and another injured. A fight over an earlier basketball game preceded the shooting, police said.
A gunman killed a teenage boy and injured another in a double shooting outside a North Philadelphia recreation center Wednesday night that may have stemmed from an earlier fight over a basketball game.
The two 17-year-olds were on the 2900 block of North 12th Street around 8:10 p.m. when a gunman opened fire. Quasier Barley was shot once in the chest and once in the arm while a second teen was shot once in the elbow, police said.
One of the shooting victims ran into the 12th & Cambria Recreation Center for help, police said.
Barley died a short time later at the hospital while the other boy was listed in stable condition.
A fight over an earlier basketball game at the recreation center may have sparked the shooting, investigators said.
Investigators looked for the shooter, a man in his 20s with dreadlocks who was wearing black shorts and a lime green basketball jersey, as well as three people who possibly took the gun from the scene, police said.
