7-Year-Old Girl, 4-Year-Old Boy Struck by Car While Walking to School

Two young siblings are struck on Diamond Street while walking to school with their mother Tuesday morning.

A scary reminder for parents as to how dangerous a busy intersection can be. Two siblings, ages 4 and 7, were struck by a car on their way to school. Both children were taken to local hospitals where the 4 year old is in critical but stable condition.

A 4-year-old boy was left in critical condition Tuesday morning after a driver struck him and his 7-year-old sister while they were walking to school with their mother in North Philadelphia.

The 7-year-old girl is in stable condition.

The crash happened around 7 a.m. along Diamond Street near 20th Street, Philadelphia police said.

The siblings were walking to school when they stepped out into the street at 20th and Diamond and were struck by a passing car, police said.

Surveillance video shows the children peering past a parked car before beginning to run across the street. You then see the car knock the children across the intersection and the pregnant mother running toward them.

The striking driver stopped in the middle of Diamond Street. A passenger in that sedan said that the sedan had a green light when the children darted into the street and didn't see them coming.

Neighbors said that a crossing guard is needed at the intersection.

Each child was transported to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Police let the sedan driver leave the scene after they reviewed the surveillance video. No charges have been filed.
