Hundreds of South Jersey students will start the upcoming academic year on split sessions due to mold problems at one district school.
Manchester Township school officials announced Monday that the district's middle school will be shuttered for several months after mold was found earlier this month on the building's first floor. The cost of the cleanup has not yet been determined, and it's not known how long the restoration work will take.
“Because this is a safety concern, we have moved staff out of the building and we are currently working with two companies to test the entire building and begin to immediately remediate the problem,” said superintendent David Trethaway.
Classes for the more than 700 students due to attend the middle school will be held at the district's high school until the cleanup work is completed. Officials say high school students will have classes from 7 a.m. to noon, while the middle school students will attend classes from noon to 5 p.m.
