NJ Flags at Half Staff in Honor of Clemons

Gov. Christie orders honor for late E Street Band saxophonist

Flags in New Jersey were flown at half-staff on Thursday in honor of Clarence Clemons, E Street Band saxophonist and frequent Bruce Springsteen collaborator.

Clemons passed away on Jun. 18, following complications from a stroke.

Governor Chris Christie ordered the honor to commemorate Clemons “in special recognition of his contributions to the state, people, and culture of New Jersey”, reports nj.com.

According to nj.com, Gov. Christie is a dedicated Bruce Springsteen listener and has attended 125 of his concerts.

NJ.com also included the following statement from the Governor regarding Clemons:

Clarence Clemons represented the soul and spirit of New Jersey. His partnership with Bruce Springsteen and the rest of the E Street Band brought great pride to our state and joy to every fan of this music around the world. On a personal note, when I heard about the Big Man's passing on Saturday night, I was struck with an overwhelming feeling that the days of my youth were now finally over. My condolences to Clarence's family and all the members of the E Street Band.
