New Jersey Statehouse to Get $300M Makeover

Commission approves New Jersey statehouse renovation plans

The New Jersey commission that oversees the state capitol building has authorized Republican Gov. Chris Christie's plan for a four-year, $300 million renovation of the statehouse.

The State Capitol Joint Management Commission voted 7-0, with one abstention. to approve a resolution endorsing the project on Tuesday.

Christie had announced plans last fall for the major renovations to the deteriorating 18th-century building. Workers have begun boarding up windows with plywood.

Matt and Jennifer Diaz were enroute to the hospital Thursday night to deliver their son, but their baby had a different idea. A quick moving labor forced the couple to pull over into a parking lot of a Bucks County diner to deliver their son in the front seat of their car. But, the pair had a little help bringing baby Jace into the world from Bucks County Police.

At 11:28 on Thursday, Bedminster Township Police Officer Robert Compton, assisted by Chief Ryan Lehman of the Dublin Boro Police Department, responded to a call of a woman in labor. It was in the parking lot the officers helped Matt and Jennifer deliver the baby boy "roadside."

Officer Compton and Officer Lehman stopped by to visit baby Jace once the family made it to the hospital. BTPD thanked the family for allowing them to share the adorable photos on their Facebook page.

Baby and parents are back at home enjoying time together with big brother Bentley, who is excited to eventually play flag football with Jace. Congratulations!

Treasurer Ford Scudder said in February the governor's office and state department employees who work in the statehouse would be moving to a state building down the street in the capital.

Christie says the building is a "fire trap" that hasn't been significantly updated in six decades.
