A northern New Jersey man has admitted carjacking a New Hampshire woman after she got lost and stopped at an office building to get directions.
Joseph DeFreitas and an alleged female accomplice initially faced charges ranging from kidnapping to credit card fraud stemming from the December 2012 incident in Parsippany, which ended with the 71-year-old victim trapped in the trunk of her car.
But the 43-year-old DeFreitas pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree carjacking as part of a plea bargain with Morris County prosecutors. They will recommend he get a 25-year prison term when he's sentenced Dec. 19.
The victim was headed home after visiting with family when the carjacking occurred.
After withdrawing money from her bank account, DeFreitas drove her to an industrial building lot and forced her into the trunk. But she soon freed herself and sought help.
