Two separate crashes left a man is dead and three people injured on the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) within the span of a few hours.

Police say a motorcyclist was traveling east on I-76 near Girard Avenue around 7:20 p.m. when he suddenly lost control, crashing on the side of the road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two lanes on I-76 East near Girard Avenue were blocked for a few hours but were reopened around 10:30 p.m.

Around the same time those lanes reopened, police say there was another accident on I-76 East, this time at Montgomery Drive. Two vehicles were involved in that crash, according to officials. Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All I-76 eastbound lanes were briefly closed between US-1 North and Montgomery Drive. They then reopened shortly after 11 p.m.
