A 29-year-old man died Friday night when another person tried stealing his car. The suspect then crashed into a Cricket store along Girard Avenue before fleeing.

Police say a man was killed when he was dragged down a North Philadelphia avenue while trying to stop another man from stealing his car.

A police spokesman says a man estimated to be in his 20s was trying to steal a 2006 black Acura on North Broad Street on Friday night.

Police say the 29-year-old car owner was dragged down the block. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and pronounced dead at 9 p.m. Friday. His name wasn't immediately released.

Police say the car thief lost control of the vehicle and hit a store, causing structural damage. The suspect fled on foot. No arrests were reported.
