New York state police say a New Jersey man is dead after apparently drowning in the Delaware River.
Troopers say 21-year-old Jamel Rounds of Paterson was swimming in the town of Deerpark when a strong current took him about 100 yards downriver into a pool of deep water where he went under around 1 p.m. Saturday.
Emergency crews pulled him from the water and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The accident remains under investigation.
Deerpark is in Orange County, about 90 miles northwest of New York City.
