Kenney: Let the PPA Enforce More than Parking

The Philadelphia Parking Authority could have the power to report more than just parking violations if Democratic mayoral candidate Jim Kenney gets his way. NBC10’s George Spencer has more details about the proposal.

Philadelphia's feared parking enforcement officers could be getting some additional ticket-writing duties.

The Democratic nominee for mayor wants to see the onetime stars of the reality TV series "Parking Wars" also hand out citations for littering, dumpster violations, blocked sidewalks and even some construction violations.

Jim Kenney's camp says the parking officers are valuable eyes on the street.

As anyone who has been ticketed, booted or towed in Philadelphia can attest, parking rules are stringently enforced in the city even if some other ordinances are not.

Kenney has long complained about illegal sidewalk closures by contractors and others. The city has also been accused from time to time of not doing more about litter.

The Parking Authority said they like Kenney's proposal.
