Judge Who Freed Sandusky Volunteered at 2nd Mile

Judge Leslie Dutchcot freed former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky on $100,000 unsecured bail.

Prosecutors requested that Jerry Sandusky’s bail be set at $500,000, but judge Leslie Dutchcot only set his bail at $100,000. Her website states that she volunteered at Sandusky’s 2nd Mile charity.

New details have emerged on the judge who granted bail to former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky.

Sandusky was arrested on November 5 and charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse of young boys over a 15-year period.

Deadspin reports that upon his arraignment, prosecutors requested $500,000 bail for Sandusky. They also wanted him to wear a leg monitor.

Judge Leslie Dutchcot freed Sandusky on $100,000 unsecured bail however, meaning he’ll only have to pay if he doesn’t show up for court.

What’s truly interesting however is the information on Dutchcot’s biography on her former law firm’s website. Her profile states that she volunteered at the Second Mile, the same organization where Sandusky allegedly found his victims.

While there is nothing explicitly suspicious about this, Deadspin questioned why Dutchcot didn’t recuse herself from the process, given her connection.

Sandusky has been banned from the Penn State campus and could face life in prison if convicted of the charges against him.
