Jackknifed Tractor-Trailer Closes I-95N

The highway is completely reopened after almost seven hours

A jackknifed tractor-trailer shut down I-95 north Wednesday morning and after stranding drivers for nearly three hours, it looks like at least one lane may be reopened soon.

Good news for commuters, I-95 northbound has been reopened, nearly seven hours after a jackknifed tractor-trailer caused it to shut down.

The accident happened around 3:40 Wednesday morning causing major delays and major headaches for thousands of drivers. The highway was closed between Cottman Avenue and Academy Road.

Many commuters were stuck on the highway for two hours before authorities were able to direct them off the road using southbound lanes. The remaining cars were directed off the highway using a temporarily reopened left lane.

The left lane reopened for the day around 7 a.m.

PennDot crews repaired a large rip caused by the tires of the tractor-trailer and hazmat crews were out earlier cleaning up spilled fuel from the vehicle.

The tractor-trailer was towed just before 7 a.m.
