Firefighters Jump in to Rescue Woman After Car Flips Into Icy Delaware Creek

Firefighters jumped into freezing waters to save a trapped teen inside a car submerged in a creek in New Castle County. NBC10’s Tim Furlong spoke to one of the rescuers.

Firefighters jumped into an icy Delaware creek after a woman’s car flipped upside down through the ice.

The dramatic rescue played out along Snuff Mill Road near Creek Road in Yorklyn, New Castle County Tuesday morning around 7:30.

Firefighters from Hockessin Fire Company 19 jumped into the water without wet suits to free the woman from the upside car, reported WDEL.

The firefighters were treated at the scene while medics rushed the woman to Christiana Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

No word yet on what caused the woman to lose control of her car but roads in the area were icy at the time.
