Some lanes on the Schuylkill Expressway in Lower Merion will be closed overnight due to a construction project.
WATCH: Crash Snarls Traffic on I-76
Crews are working to remove large rocks from the hillside next to I-76 Eastbound just east of the Route 23 Interchange in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County. It’s all part of PennDOT’s $2.3 million project to “enhance safety along the expressway.”
A contractor is removing loose rock and will then bolt the remaining rock in place in order to keep rocks from falling onto the expressway. The project is fully financed by state funds and is scheduled for completion in November.
Right lane closures on i-76 eastbound began Friday night. They will continue as follows:
- 10 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 12) to 9 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 13)
- 10 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 13) to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 14)
- 10 p.m. Monday (Oct. 14) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 15)
- 10 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 15) to 5 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 16)
- 10 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 16) to 5 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 17)
- 10 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 17) to 5 a.m. Friday (Oct. 18)
Intermittent five-minute traffic stoppages will also take place on I-76 Eastbound approaching the work area during the overnight construction.
