State Police say a fuel spill caused an accident involving several cars that shut down I-676 East for over two hours.
Police say a vehicle carrying crane parts from Manheim, Lancaster County to a location in Philadelphia was traveling on I-76 eastbound at Route 1 when a piece of its left front bumper came off and punctured its left saddle tank.
The vehicle continued to travel as it leaked and lost fuel on I-76 East to I-676 East and onto I-95 North before it was stopped on the off-ramp of Allegheny Avenue.
The leaked oil caused a slick roadway which led to an accident involving about a dozen cars on the Vine Street Expressway shortly after.
Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the pileup and the expressway was closed just past I-76 east, causing a traffic nightmare.
The expressway reopened around 7:30 p.m.
