The mystery continues in a deadly hit and run that took the life of a bicyclist at Hunting Park. Authorities are still trying to figure out the victim’s identity and are asking for the public’s help. NBC10’s Doug Shimell has more about the victim and the woman who police say was behind the wheel.
Philadelphia Police asked for the public's help to identify a cyclist killed in a deadly hit-and-run in the city's Hunting Park section over the weekend.
The unidentified victim was riding his gray Huffy mountain bike on the 4000 block of N 2nd street around 1:10 p.m. Sunday when a driver passing another vehicle went into the wrong lane and struck the man, said investigators.
After the wreck, surveillance video showed the driver -- who police have not yet identified -- stopping, getting out of her SUV and looking at the victim before driving off. Investigators eventually caught up to her at 7th and Atlantic streets and took her in for questioning before releasing her pending further investigation. They said it appeared the woman may have tried to remove her license plates.
Medics rushed the cyclist to Temple University Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.
The victim didn't have ID on him. Investigators said he appeared to be about 20 years old and stood around 5-foot, 9-inches tall and weighed around 150 pounds. He wore a blue shirt with a bright yellow 'Nike" logo on it and gray fleece sweatpants and carried a pink and black backpack when he was struck. He also had a series of tattoos on both biceps.
Police asked anyone who might know the victim to contact the Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3180/81.
