Delaware governor Jack Markell is scheduled to sign a bill Monday that will ban anyone under 18-years-old from using tanning beds.
Governor Jack Markell signed a bill aimed at reducing the risk for melanoma among teens -- which, in the simplest terms, mean no tanning for teens -- starting in January.
The bill was signed Monday at noon and when it goes into effect, it will ban anyone under the age of 18 from using tanning facilities, regardless of whether or not they have permission from their parents.
Under current law, minors between the ages of 14 and 18 can tan with parental consent.
Delaware Governor Markell was joined by State Representatives Paul Baumbach, Dennis E. Williams, and David Wilson, and Senator Bethany Hall-Long, when he signed the bill.
The bill will also require signs warning of the dangers of tanning be posted inside tanning facilities.
