Girls Shocked During H.S. Baseball Game

Two young girls were hurt Wednesday night after being shocked while playing near a Pottstown, Pa. baseball field where a high school game was being played.

The girls -– ages 7 and 8 -- were playing near the Pottsgrove High School baseball field batting cages around 6 p.m. when they suddenly were shocked, according to Lower Pottsgrove Police.

The shock left both the girls suffering from burns, according to authorities.

The electrical wiring in the batting cage reportedly shorted out causing both girls to get shocked, police said.

It appeared that there were bare wires running to the pitching machine apparatus and outlets in the cage were missing from the 110-volt setup, cops said.

The exposed current caused the cage to become energized, authorities said.

One girl came in contact with the metal and netting cage and wound up sticking to the metal bars on the outside of the cage. The other girl tried to help her friend and became stuck, cops said.

A Good Samaritan ran over to pull both the girls away from the cages and also suffered shocks, police said.

He refused treatment.

One girl was taken to Lehigh Valley Burn unit while the other was taken to Pottstown Hospital. They are expected to be OK, cops said.
