The girl was unresponsive and not breathing when she was rescued around 1:10 p.m. Thursday from the water at the Lake & Shore Camping and RV Resort in Dennis Township, Cape May County, state police said.

Police are highlighting the importance of paying close attention to children by the pool. This warning comes just after two drowning tragedies. NBC10’s Ted Greenberg has the story.

A 4-year-old girl died early Monday morning a few days after she was pulled from a Jersey Shore lake.

The girl was unresponsive and not breathing when she was rescued around 1:10 p.m. Thursday from the water at the Lake & Shore Camping and RV Resort in Dennis Township, Cape May County, state police said.

CPR was performed on the child and she was then rushed by ambulance to Cape Regional Medical Center. State police said the girl was later transferred to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:36 a.m. Monday morning.

Troopers are investigating what exactly happened.

In a statement, the resort said staff is "deeply saddened by the incident."
