Funeral for NJ Teen Who Was Struck by SUV, Dump Truck on Christmas Eve

Anthony Samaroo, the 18-year-old killed on Christmas Eve, will be laid to rest in South Jersey.

A funeral will be held this week for a South Jersey teenager who died after he was struck by a dump truck and sport utility vehicle while crossing a roadway on Christmas Eve.

Anthony Samaroo, 17, of Turnersville was struck by a Ford Escape along Fries Mill Road at the intersection with White Birch Road in Washington Township Wednesday. Samoroo then fell into the street before being struck by a Mack tri-axle dump truck that was traveling behind it, according to police.

The teen was transported to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said that both vehicles were driving through the intersection around 5:45 p.m. with a green signal and it wasn't known why Samaroo was in the roadway.

Both drivers remained at the scene of the crash and were not injured. No charges were filed and each driver was wearing a seat belt, said police.

Samaroo was a senior at Washington Township High School and is survived by his parents and sister.

A visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Zarro Funeral Home on 145 Harrison Street in Bloomfield, New Jersey. A prayer service will then be held at Zarro from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday followed by the entombment at Glendale Cemetery on 28 Hoover Avenue in Bloomfield.

Friends and family also created a memorial page for Samaroo on Facebook.

The crash remained under investigation and police asked that anyone with information email Officer Joshua Bradford or call 856-589-6650.
