The FBI is on the hunt for a man who they say is targeting banks located inside grocery stores. He’s been nicknamed the “silent bandit” due to him handing threatening notes to tellers rather than speaking. Authorities believe he’s responsible for six bank robberies in Lehigh County, Bucks County and Trenton within the past two weeks. NBC10’s Byron Scott reports.
The FBI has released surveillance video of a man believed to be responsible for six bank robberies in the past two weeks.
Authorities have nicknamed him the "silent bandit" because he does not talk but instead hands a threatening note to the teller, according to the FBI. They say he's only uttered one word in all five robberies.
"He responded to a teller who didn't realize it was a bank robbery who offered him a piece of candy and he said no, and that's been the only verbal commands he's given," said Joe Bushner, FBI.
The most recent robbery happened Wednesday at the PNC Bank in Flemington.
The six bank robberies occurred in Lehigh County, Bucks County, and the Trenton area. The FBI says they all happened at banks located inside grocery stores, and believe the man maybe driving a silver or gold sedan or coupe.
The other banks that have been targeted include QNB Bank inside the Giant Grocery store in Quakertown, KNBT Bank inside the Giant in Bethlehem, and PNC Bank inside several Shop Rites in Marlton, Hopewell, and Warminster.
The man allegedly showed a gun in several of the robberies that authorities say maybe a revolver. The FBI says he's considered armed and dangerous.
