Duffy's Cut Memorial

A very emotional ceremony in Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pa., on Friday. The remains of five Irish immigrants who were killed while building a railroad in Chester County in the 1800’s, were re-interred at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Among those at the ceremony were the Irish Ambassador to the United States. Researchers say the workers were first buried in unmarked graves outside Malvern, after they were murdered by vigilantes in 1832. The mob mistakenly believed the Irishmen were spreading cholera. Thanks to the work of Immaculata University, the victims of the Duffy’s Cut Project and many others now have a resting place.
