Driver in Stolen Car Tries to Run Over Bike Officer: Police

Police say a suspect in a stolen vehicle tried to intentionally run over a bike officer. The officer was not injured and the suspect was arrested.

A man was arrested after he tried to run over a bicycle officer while driving a stolen vehicle, according to police.

The unidentified driver tried to strike an officer who was riding his bike at 1800 E. Russell Street Sunday night, investigators said. The driver struck the bike and fled the scene. The officer was not hurt however, according to police.

The suspect continued driving before he finally stopped at Melvale and Ontario streets, police said. He then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot before he was apprehended by responding officers about four blocks away, according to investigators.

Police have not yet released the suspect's identity.
