A 13-year-old boy was shot Thursday night during an attempted robbery in the Wissinoming section of the city. Police said the bullet grazed the boy’s stomach and he is expected to recover.
A bullet grazed a boy inside a Philadelphia home during an attempted robbery Thursday night.
Two men wearing dark clothing approached a 34-year-old resident of the home along the 4000 block of Creston Street in the city’s Wissinoming neighborhood around 7:50 p.m. and announced a robbery, according to Philadelphia Police.
“The 34-year-old ran inside the property through the front door,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
During the attempted theft, one of the men opened fire into the home where a 13-year-old boy was in the living room. The bullet grazed the boy’s stomach, said police.
Medics rushed the boy to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in stable condition, said Small.
“It’s a tragedy that a 13-year-old boy was struck by gunfire but it could have been a lot worse,” said Small.
Five other people including a 3-month old girl, another boy and some other adults were in the home but unhurt by the gunfire.
