Crane Topples Onto Car Trapping Driver

An emergency dispatcher says a car's driver was briefly trapped when a crane toppled onto his vehicle near a western Pennsylvania bridge.

The Armstrong County 911 operator says the incident happened about 6:25 a.m. Monday in Apollo. The borough is about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Apollo police weren't immediately available to comment, but the dispatcher says the driver's legs were trapped, but he was able to crawl out of his car before an ambulance took him to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. The driver's name and condition weren't immediately available.

It was not immediately clear who owned the crane and whether it was being operated at the time of the accident, or simply tipped over while parked.

The accident occurred on the Apollo side of the Apollo Bridge, which spans the Kiskiminetas River.
