NJ Family Victims of Prank on Craigslist

Someone put a post on Craigslist telling people that everything in the Stallings family's yard was free

A N.J. family thought some of their outdoor furniture was stolen Monday when a porch glider and a fire pit were missing from their yard. The family was shocked to find out that they were apart of a prank on Craigslist that claimed everything in their yard was free. NBC10’s Terry Ruggles shares the story.

A New Jersey family would love to know who's behind a prank that caused them to lose some family belongings.

"I can't believe someone would do something like this," Kelly Stallings of Phillipsburg told NBC10's Terry Ruggles.

Someone put a post on Craigslist.org saying everything in their yard was for the taking -- free.

Kelly wasn't sure exactly what was going on when she got home from a quick trip to the bus station on Monday and found the front porch glider gone along with the fire pit from the back yard.

"We just got it [the fire pit] as a Christmas gift," Kelly said.

The Stallings say they're probably lucky more stuff wasn't taken.

"There was a gentleman who pulled up and he walked up and asked us if he could have the stuff on Craigslist," said Kelly's husband, Mike Stallings. And that pattern continued for the rest of the day -- people knocking on the door asking if they could take the toys in the yard.

The Craiglist posting mysteriously disappeared when police arrived to investigate. The town's police chief said this is a first for him, and it is a crime.

"They committed a theft by allowing the property to be stolen," said Chief Jim Faulborn.
