Child's Body Found in Closet

DE Mother is facing charges

Delaware State Police say the body of a toddler was found in a basement closet of a home in Dover. The medical examiner says the child was a victim of blunt force trauma. Police suspect the body is the son of Karen Hooks, who claimed the child was visiting friends in Smyrna. NBC10’s Terry Ruggles reports.

Delaware state police made a disturbing find inside a Dover home while searching for a missing child.

Officers found the body of a toddler inside a closet in a house on Squire Circle earlier this week.

"The medical examiner has ruled the boy was the victim of  homicide, caused by blunt force trauma" said Trooper Gary Fournier.

The body "was wrapped in blankets and clear plastic" he added.

Authorities believe the body is two-year old Justice Hooks. His mother, 33-year old Karen Hooks, is charged with abuse of a corpse.

Hooks' roommate called authorities because he hadn't seen the child in months.
