A car plunged into the Delaware River from the New Jersey side early Thursday afternoon.

A woman has been hospitalized after rescue crews pulled her from a car that had plunged into the Delaware River.

The crash happened Thursday just after 1 p.m. at Freedom Pier in Gloucester City, New Jersey.

Video from SkyForce10 showed the car upside down in the river close to the pier, with the passenger compartment submerged and wheels in the air.

The car appeared to have gone over a metal fence that surrounds the pier.

Three Gloucester City police officers jumped into the river and pulled the woman out of the car. They then provided medical treatment while she was still in the water.

Good Samaritans nearby loaded the woman and the officers onto their boat and transported them to a floating dock, where the officers kept providing medical treatment until other rescuers arrived.

The woman's condition now is not known.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
