Car Crashes into Olney Home After Shots Hit Driver, Passenger

Police are looking at surveillance tape after two men were shot and killed while driving in a car in the city’s Olney neighborhood.

Shots struck two men in a car in Philadelphia early Thursday morning, sending their vehicle across a sidewalk and into a home. Police said one was killed.

The 20-year-old driver, who was shot in the head and hand, was speaking to police when they arrived at the scene of the crash on the 5500 block of American Street in the Olney section of Philadelphia around 12:45 a.m., officials said.

Unaware that he had been shot, the man told police he was hurt from the accident, authorities said.

The driver and a 21-year-old male passenger were rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment. The driver was pronounced dead a short time later, but police said the passenger is still alive in critical condition.

Three other passengers — one of whom may have been the gunman — were in the vehicle when the crash occurred, police said.

All three ran from the scene. Investigators recovered a handgun from the vehicle.
