Camden Gets $1M Grant to Transform Illegal Dumping Sites

The grant will be used to repurpose the sites for art installations and events.

Camden, New Jersey, will soon be showing more art thanks to a $1 million grant. The grant will turn illegal dumping sites into showcases for public art.

Camden is getting a $1 million grant to transform illegal dumping sites into spaces for public art.

The grant is part of "A New View," a project funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, which was founded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The sites are along major transit corridors. In Camden, those include the PATCO high-speed rail line, the RiverLine light rail line and the Camden Greenway trail network.

Camden Mayor Francisco Moran says illegal dumping costs the city more than $4 million per year.

The grant will be used to repurpose the sites for art installations and events.
