Police arrested a man who allegedly went on a drunken joyride after breaking into a home, stealing a jeep and burglarizing two cars.

On Wednesday at 2:53 a.m., police responded to a burglary report at a home on the 200 block of William Penn Boulevard in Thornbury Township.

Police say the homeowner discovered Alexander Bolte, 19, of Thornbury inside his bedroom. When confronted by the homeowner, Bolte allegedly fled the house on foot. Investigators say Bolte had eaten the victim’s food while inside his home.

That same night, at 3:19 a.m., police responded to a home on Zachary Drive in Thornbury. The homeowner reported that a man matching Bolte’s description was inside his vehicle in the driveway. The suspect allegedly entered two cars and removed a handbag as well as money before fleeing the scene.

Police created a perimeter in the area. At 3:36 a.m., an officer spotted Bolte driving a Silver Jeep Patriot erratically on South Westbourne Road near Zachary Drive, according to investigators. Police say Bolte drove at a high speed towards East Street after a police officer attempted to stop him.

Bolte then allegedly crossed East Street Road without stopping for a stop sign and officers lost sight of the vehicle. Officers continued to check the area. At 3:40 a.m. they say they found that the Jeep Patriot had crashed through the fence in front of a home on the 700 block of Westbourne Road in Westtown Township. Police later found Bolte and arrested him after he allegedly failed field sobriety tests at the scene.

Police say Bolte had stolen the Jeep Patriot from a home on the 600 block of South Westbourne Road in Thornbury after he found keys to the vehicle inside. The vehicle as well as the landscape and fence where it left Westbourne Road were damaged, according to police. Investigators say officers later recovered the stolen items inside the Jeep that Bolte stole from the two parked cars on Zachary Drive.

Bolte is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and other related offenses.
