Amoroso, Drivers Come to Agreement

The bread company will sell their drivers' routes to independent operators.

Amoroso’s Baking Co. will soon begin selling independent operators the majority of its truck routes, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.

This arrangement is in accordance with a contract approved Sunday by the drivers, members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 463.

The bakery currently employs 70 drivers.

The 20 drivers who refused to purchase routes will lose their jobs and 25 drivers with seniority will keep their jobs for another four years, though they will be taking home less in order to do so, reports the Inky.

The remaining drivers purchased routes.

All of Amoroso’s routes will become owner-operated by 2015, according to the Inquirer.

This agreement comes fter Amoroso’s drivers attempted to strike in reaction to being told that they had to either purchase their routes or lose their jobs to independent operators.

Amoroso’s responded to the attempted work stoppage by getting a federal injuction, which outlawed the picketing and compelled the drivers to return to work.
