Man Sentenced in Shaken Baby Death

Daquan Davis, 19, is accused of shaking a 6-month-old baby to death. He is expected to appear in court in Mays Landing Monday afternoon.

An Atlantic City man was sentenced Friday for causing the death of a 6-month-old baby.

Daquan Davis, 20, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted last year of shaking Yusuf E'Miy Stewart-Ali Jr to death in September 2012.

Prosecutors say the baby was left in Davis' care while his mother, Ebony Stewart, was at work. When the woman returned home and found the boy unresponsive, she called 911. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

"I noticed my son wasn't breathing. I looked closer and he wasn't breathing. He face was purple and frozen cold," Stewart told NBC10 exclusively.

Davis was arrested that evening and charged with aggravated manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.

He admitted in court that he shook the baby because he would not stop crying.

Davis was convicted in the child's death last February.
